Boy kills giant wild hog with pistol

Associated Press story:
Boy bags hog said bigger than 'Hogzilla'

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Hogzilla is being made into a horror movie. But the sequel may be even bigger: Meet Monster Pig. An 11-year-old boy used a pistol to kill a wild hog his father says weighed a staggering 1,051 pounds and measured 9 feet 4, from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail. Think hams as big as car tires.

If the claims are accurate, Jamison Stone's trophy boar would be bigger than Hogzilla, the famed wild hog that grew to seemingly mythical proportions after being killed in south Georgia in 2004.

Hogzilla originally was thought to weigh 1,000 pounds and measure 12 feet long. National Geographic experts who unearthed its remains believe the animal actually weighed about 800 pounds and was 8 feet long.

Regardless of the comparison, Jamison is reveling in the attention over his pig.

"It feels really good," Jamison said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "It's a good accomplishment. I probably won't ever kill anything else that big."

Jamison, who killed his first deer at age 5, was hunting with father Mike Stone and two guides in east Alabama on May 3 when he bagged Monster Pig. He said he shot the huge animal eight times with a .50-caliber revolver and chased it for three hours through hilly woods before finishing it off with a point-blank shot.

Through it all, there was the fear that the animal would turn and charge them, as wild boars have a reputation for doing.

"I was a little bit scared, a little bit excited," said Jamison, who lives in Pickensville on the Mississippi border. He just finished the sixth grade on the honor roll at Christian Heritage Academy, a small, private school.

His father said that, just to be extra safe, he and the guides had high-powered rifles aimed and ready to fire in case the beast, with 5-inch tusks, decided to charge.

With the animal finally dead in a creek bed on the 2,500-acre Lost Creek Plantation, a commercial hunting preserve in Delta, trees had to be cut down and a backhoe brought in to bring Jamison's prize out of the woods.

It was hauled on a truck to the Clay County Farmers Exchange in Lineville, where Jeff Kinder said they used his scale, recently calibrated, to weigh the hog.

Kinder's scale measures only to the nearest 10, but Mike Stone said it balanced one notch past the 1,050-pound mark.

"It probably weighed 1,060 pounds. We were just afraid to change it once the story was out," he said.

The hog's head is being mounted by Jerry Cunningham of Jerry's Taxidermy. Cunningham said the animal measured 54 inches around the head, 74 inches around the shoulders and 11 inches from the eyes to the end of its snout.

"It's huge," he said. "It's just the biggest thing I've ever seen."

Mike Stone is having sausage made from the rest of the animal. "We'll probably get 500 to 700 pounds," he said.

Jamison, meanwhile, has been offered a small part in "The Legend of Hogzilla," a small-time horror flick based on the tale of the Georgia boar. The movie is holding casting calls with plans to begin filming in Georgia.

Jamison is enjoying the newfound celebrity generated by the hog hunt, but he said he prefers hunting pheasants to monster pigs: "They are a little less dangerous."

This is disgusting. You see an animal and your impulse is to kill it. I just don't understand that barbaric mentality. To raise a child to think this way is sickening. That poor hog suffered for three hours. What is wrong with these people to think this is an accomplishment? Just disgusting.

I FULLY AGREE! THIS IS DISGUSTING! I WISH SOMEONE WOULD DO THE SAME TO THIS HORRID KID! AND HIS SO-CALLED IDIOT FATHER. THEY ARE BARBARIC! THIS IS NOT AN "ACCOMPLISHMENT." THESE PEOPLE WHOULD BE PUT IN JAIL FOR THIS. THIS POOR CREATURE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROTECTED. I HAVE NO FEELINGS FOR ANYONE WHO HUNTS. IF YOU ARE ACCIDENTLY KILLED - SO BE IT! YOU GOT WHAT YOU DESERVE!

Yeah... Hrmm. Find out more about the animal, or Kill it to say OMG i can shoot a gun like a true genius... Hrmm..Not hard to kill something. It is this kind of stupid behavior that is leading to the extinction of rare species of animals

That's us the human race. Kill, kill and kill again.
Wow, what a thing to brag about;I killed a big wild pig with a pistol. The dad and his boy both need mental help. I suppose he kills little baby animals too for the thrill of it. Sometimes I'm
ashamed to be part of the human race.

I wish there was a law that said you have to eat whatever you kill. I'd love to see this boy and the dear old dad choke on every pound. They aree rejoicing as if this were some kind of accomplishment. Shame on them for killing such a magnificant animal.

I understand what hunting is about. But this fantastic animal has been twodimensionalized as a measurement on a scale. If only their first impulse was to call for a tranquilizer rifle. Can you see that hog pulling a float at the annual homecoming parade? Gosh, a life of pathetic servitude would have been better than the ghoulish fiasco hurled on this pig. Someone needs to teach that kid not to point his black powder pop gun at things worthy of fascination. Mabye making the kid gorge on it's liver in a "post kill" ritual would have fine tuned his sense of Hollywood heritage. I'm sure these hunters were just doing their part to balance the food chain of that delicate ecosystem. Now mabye the deer will get to dine on all that steroid laced feed the hog was consuming.

Another 'little redneck' that thinks it is ok to kill and kill again. And his father, daddy redneck, encouraging his son to do so. That animal was bothering no one, and yet it was hunted down and killed just because a human had to kill someone and then the whole family takes great 'pride' in the fact that a unique creature was killed for the thrill of killing. These people are sick.

DISGRACE!!! What will this 11 year old be when he becomes an adult?
Is his father proud to have raised a kid like this?
One with no feeling whatsoever for any living creature on our earth?
If this kid thinks he " tough" and a " big man"..i hope his father sends him to new york city for the summer.
he'll learn what " tough" really is
very fast.

I don't have a problem with the killing, just use a the proper gone to kill it with one shot. Don't make it suffer for three hours unnecassarily. That's just cruel.

The kid is proud that he'll never kill anything that big again? Why not go for quantity? Maybe he could kill every living thing for a few miles around his home. That would be an accomplishment. Oh, and as for torture, I'm sure he can set fire to cat's tails for his amusement. The mighty hunter is a moral pygmy.

These are sick, sick, backwards people. These articles are sad as well, seeing that they are just glorifying barbaric behavior. Why does it make someone feel so good to kill another being? It's sick and wrong. And then to make the animal suffer for 3 hours! I think that if the roles were revearsed, and those rednecks had to go through what that hog had to go through, because of them, they would think and feel differently. Sick, sick, sick.

This kid laments that he probably won't kill anything this big again...yeah his priorities on on a good track. Rejoicing in hunting down an amazing animal in its habitat, wounding it, making it suffer for three hours, finally killing it with "point blank shot", tear down trees to get it out. What is going to satisfy this kid's lust for the kill in the future? These backwoods people are a disgrace.

Tragic in so many ways. This is nothing to be proud of. I hope the the hunters know how much that there is for them.

People have been killing for food, since the begining of time. This kid kills one pig,and he is the bad guy.Grow up.Think about this next time you eat pork chops,or BarBQ ribs.

If only the hog could shoot back. I wonder if this mere child would have gone after the hog for three, long, grueling hours if the hog had a gun, as well. Hmmm... let me take this big weapon and try to kill something that is defenseless against it. Humanity's biggest threat is humans. How sad is that?

Anonymous said...

I was apalled when I read fome of the blogs. I don't usually respond but in this case I couldn't help it. First of all to attack a child and say that the same thing should be done to him. That makes you all look worse than the kid. Why should you expect more from an 11 year old than an adult?. I have nevr killed an animal in my entire life, but I do understand the concept. For those of you who have no idea of the damage and harm that a wild boar can do, you need to do some research. I could list it here, but I think you have too much time on your hands and are obviously of low mentality. Maybe you need to do some research and leave the children alone.

I don't understand why a human being should take the life of any living thing unless his own life is threatened. How can a person find contentment in killing something? And then to think that the animal, who had lived a free life for so long, would have to suffer for three hours before dying. We need to find our joy in letting a wild thing run free. One day there won't be any wild life left, except in zoo's. How sad.

someone should ask why they had to pay 1500.00 to shoot a tame pig in a fence. This was not hunting and it was not a wild hog. They shot Wilbur!

Anonymous said...

Thats nothing compared to the 1050 milligram wild goldfish I hunted down in my fish tank and shot with a bow and arrow. I have rspect for hunters, but these people are not hunters. Rednecks with guns who shoot fenced in animals are not hunters. They're basically extreme grocery shoppers. They have as much bragging right as an old lady who found a 20 pound watermellon in the supermarket.

Ok,these are all right on.So why doesn't someone find out this little jerk's address and send him hard copies of all these statments? Maybe then these savage, backwoods mental lightweights might begin to see how disgusting other people find them. This kid is beyond sick.

I do agree that this is disgusting. Why some people think that killing is a sport is beyond me. These "canned" hunts should be against the law.
As for the damage wild boar can do. For crying out loud-have you heard of global warming? Have you seen how many trees are taken down each year and not replaced? Have you seen how much farm land has been taken out of production each year? Talk about damage. I think the animal who does the most damage is the human animal. How do we hunt him?

I FULLY AGRRE..THIS STORY IS SICK, CRUEL, DISCUSTING THE KID IS A PSYCO VIOLENT KILLER , WHICH SHOWED NO COMPASSION OR ANY KIND OF INNOCENCE SINCE AGE 5 WHEN HE KILLED A DEER. HIS FATHER IS A PSYCO TO. THEY SHOULD BE BOTH IN JAIL. I WISH THE HOD WOULD HAVE KILLKED THEM BOTH AND CHAISING THEM BOTH FOR 3 HOURS. THIS STORY IS SAD AND HORRIFYING

It is horrible that this kid is proud of this. This is disgusting. This kid is being praised for taking a life? The only reason that this should be in the news is the same reason any other hunting story should be in the news to expose the monsters who think it is acceptable to murder.

Anonymous said...

All day I was sickened by this story. Where is the justice for the animals that can't defend themselves? It is comforting to see that there are others who see this as disgusting, because people all around me think this is okay. I don't care if this kid grew up in an environment of monsters, he is old enough to know murder is wrong and he should be held accountable for this.

Anonymous said...

This is, unfortunately, exactly what we have come to as a species. "I probably will never kill something this large again." Too late. You've just killed my faith in the human condition.

Anonymous said...

Well, at least the kid and pig look so alike!

Anonymous said...

sadening to see man ever present evil. this story reminds me of william golding' lord of the flies... oh the savagery

Anonymous said...

I am glad I have found others that agree with what I have been thinking ever since I heard this story. This is horrible. What kind of parent raises their children to use weapons anyway? Also for the purpose to kill. I cant see how someone could be proud for killing anyone or anything.
